Wake Forest Homes along the old golf course may see a little boost in their equity! It is true that a Connecticut man is now the owner of the Wake Forest Country Club. He has plans to begin making it available to all very soon.
“It certainly seemed to be dead, its fairways and greens choked with head-high weeds, but a Connecticut businessman says he is bringing the Wake Forest Golf & Country Club back to life.
Jim McGuire held a small meeting Monday afternoon to say he is “in full possession” of the 155 acres along Capital Boulevard and will begin offering memberships in the New Wake Forest Golf & Country Club within two weeks. In 90 days, he said, the putting green, driving range and clubhouse will be operational with a tavern, pro shop and restaurant in the renovated building.
The weeds had already been mowed on the fairway next to Capital Boulevard though the horsetails were five feet high behind the dilapidated clubhouse with its boarded-up doors and windows when McGuire met with several golf course neighbors, former golf club members, the local press, and Mayor Vivian Jones.
McGuire said he plans to rebuild all the greens and install a new irrigation system before the course can open, probably next spring, for full play. The pool and pool house will also be renovated and opened in the spring but not the tennis courts.
He said it will be a semi-private course as it was before and the membership fees will be “in the average price range.””
